Use One Configured Signer With Two Supported Interfaces
A Ledger signer can serve both a home laptop and an office workstation when each computer runs a supported Ledger Live installation. The app’s current name is Ledger Wallet. Set up the local account view on each host, then connect the configured hardware whenever that host needs a signature. Switching computers does not generate another set of keys.
Think in terms of a deliberate handover between ordinary sessions. Two portfolio views can refer to the same accounts, but that does not require two simultaneous programs to own the hardware connection.
Prepare a Host Record for Each Computer
On each machine, identify the operating-system user, app location and current supported release. Install through Ledger’s official software route. Compatibility on one computer does not establish compatibility for another OS or architecture.
Local privacy settings can differ. The computer login, optional app password and hardware PIN have different roles, and neither desktop needs the recovery phrase typed into it. Keep account exports and screenshots out of shared folders unless that disclosure is intentional.
Make the First Handover Read-Only
Finish the current ordinary task, then connect the Ledger through USB data to the intended second host. Close competing wallet clients and follow the hardware prompts for the action requested. Dedicated desktop Bluetooth settings do not substitute for that supported route.
Do not move the cable during a progressing Ledger OS installation. Keep that update’s host and power conditions stable until it finishes, or follow the exact model’s failed-state procedure before ordinary use resumes.
If a payment was approved on the first computer, retain its hash or provider reference and inspect the outcome before preparing anything similar on the second. Moving the signer cannot cancel a transaction already accepted by the network.
Establish the Same Account Configuration
Choose the existing-device flow on the second installation and complete its supported checks. Add the relevant blockchain accounts or use an eligible documented account-sharing feature. The multi-device guidance concerns that application setup.
Compare the network, account type and known public history. If a passphrase-protected account was used, its corresponding hardware configuration must be active. A copied label cannot select different keys, and a different app password cannot substitute for that configuration.
Keep Synchronization and Signing Separate
The Ledger Sync overview describes supported account-information synchronization. It is not a new physical signing transport and should not be treated as a promise that every provider record or local preference transfers identically.
For example, the first computer can show an account missing from the second simply because it was not added there. Resolve inclusion before blaming the USB handover or changing the wallet’s keys. If matching accounts have different data freshness, investigate the relevant refresh separately.
Review receiving and transaction details on the Ledger during their intended workflows on either host. A familiar first computer does not authenticate a destination copied on the second, and the same visible total does not replace device-screen review.
Keep a short handover note when troubleshooting: source host, completed task, destination host and first observed response. It can reveal an unfinished session without requiring a copy of wallet secrets.
Two-Computer Questions
Does this duplicate my crypto?
No. Both interfaces can display the same blockchain records. Another view does not create another set of funds or independent ownership of the same assets.
Must app passwords match?
Local privacy controls belong to their installations. Review supported settings on each host independently and keep them distinct from the PIN entered on the Ledger itself.
Should the backup be restored into both computers?
No. Connect the configured signer. Intentional hardware restoration is a separate process on trusted hardware, and recovery words must never be copied into desktop fields or migration documents for ordinary two-computer use.
