  • Ledger Live PC Wake Disconnect: Restore USB and App Access

Reconnection Starts with the Hardware Screen

If Ledger Live loses access when a Windows PC wakes, first read the Ledger screen and remember the operation that was active. The host app is now Ledger Wallet. An idle session can be rebuilt differently from a progressing device OS installation, so do not begin with an automatic unplug or restart.

Keep an OS update that is still advancing under its documented connection and power conditions. If it has reached a persistent failed state, use the exact model’s recovery instructions. A routine Windows resume checklist does not replace that procedure.

Rebuild an Ordinary Session in Order

Confirm the Host Has Resumed

Unlock Windows and allow the relevant host environment to become available. Record any dock or USB error that appears after wake. A visible desktop does not establish that every peripheral interface completed its own resume.

Inspect the Current USB Entry

Check the corresponding device’s present status rather than a remembered connection sound. If Windows now reports unknown hardware or a code, retain that specific result. Microsoft’s USB troubleshooting reference addresses relevant host and dock conditions.

Restore the Requested Signer State

Unlock the Ledger on its own controls if needed, and follow the client request for its dashboard, management confirmation or coin app. The signer may lock independently during inactivity even if Windows still identifies its interface.

Refresh the Ordinary Client Session

When no critical operation relies on the process, try the intended connection action once. If the client keeps an old disconnect state, a normal exit and reopening of the intended installed copy can be considered. Close other ordinary wallet or browser sessions that might own the same device.

Compare the Resume Route, Not Just the First Connection

If the setup works after a fresh start but not after docked sleep, record that pattern. Compare a suitable direct USB path during idle testing, keeping the signer and data cable consistent. Initial connection success and successful resume are different checks.

A powered-on device can still lack a usable data session. Conversely, a healthy Windows entry can coexist with an app-level request that has not completed. State which stage succeeds before concluding that the dock, client or signer is defective.

Avoid Broad Power Changes by Default

Microsoft’s selective suspend guidance recommends keeping that normal feature enabled. Use a specific vendor-supported investigation if the timing supports a power issue, rather than disabling every controller’s policy.

For a planned long update, follow its guidance about stable host operation and power. Display shutdown, session lock and full system sleep should be distinguished when choosing appropriate task conditions.

Verify Previous Approvals Before Repeating Work

If you confirmed a transaction before the PC slept, check its transaction hash or provider reference. A lost app session is not proof that the earlier approval failed or remained unbroadcast. Repeating the send immediately can be a separate financial action.

If you were only viewing accounts, restore the usable client before deciding the local account list needs reconstruction. A temporary unavailable-device message does not establish that the signer needs initialization or a new backup.

Define a Useful Completion Result

Confirm normal current USB status, the required hardware state and a successful ordinary device-dependent action in the intended client. If only some of these succeed, report the first remaining failure with its exact message.

For example, a restored interface followed by an unlock request shows a different stage from an unknown device after every wake. Treat the changed message as progress in the diagnosis, not as another reason to repeat all previous cable changes.

PC Resume Questions

Must I Remove and Add the Device Every Morning?

Establish the failing stage and reproducible sleep pattern first. Repeated setup can obscure the original condition and is not a diagnosis of why resume failed.

Can Clearing Local Data Repair Windows Detection?

Local portfolio records and USB host identification are different layers. Start with the current Windows status instead of erasing account organization as a default.

What Should I Tell Support About the Sleep Event?

Provide the PC and signer models, Windows and client versions, dock path, previous operation and first message after wake. Keep recovery words and hardware PINs out of the report.
