Trace the Copy That Is Supposed to Be Installed
If Ledger Live works from Downloads but fails from Applications, identify what was actually copied. The current software is Ledger Wallet. A disk image, an app inside its mounted volume and an alias pointing to that app can look related in Finder without representing a finished installation.
Start from the failing Applications item. Record its full location, kind and version information where available. Then inspect the object you launch successfully. Compare those details before removing local data or assuming that macOS treats identical programs differently because of their folder names.
Check Whether the Copy Operation Finished
A partial copy, wrong target or old replacement destination can leave Applications without the intended bundle. Apple’s downloaded-app installation guide explains the general image and installer workflow. Follow the genuine package’s instructions rather than copying only a shortcut or another link.
If Finder asked about replacement, verify which existing item was selected. A system-wide Applications location and a user-specific folder can both appear in searches. A successful operation in one destination does not prove that another old copy was replaced.
Compare One Launch at a Time
When the client is idle and no progressing device OS update depends on it, quit the existing session normally. Open the intended Applications copy directly from Finder. This avoids interpreting the already running download copy as the result of a second launch.
If a hardware OS installation is progressing, preserve that operation and its connection instead. A persistent device-update problem needs the exact model’s guide before ordinary application-copy experiments continue.
Use the Actual Launch Response
Security Assessment
Save any complete macOS alert. Apple’s application security explanation distinguishes warning categories. A damaged or harmful-file assessment should not be bypassed because another object with a similar icon launches.
Missing or Wrong Target
If the item is an alias or a stale launcher, inspect the referenced location. Pointing to an app inside an ejected image is different from having a valid installed bundle that crashes.
No Visible Window
Check for an existing process or window placement issue. An app running without a displayed window calls for interface and session checks, not an assumption that copying failed.
Recopy Through the Supported Distribution Route
If a replacement is needed, obtain the appropriate package using the official Ledger download options. Resolve any source or security concern first. Use permissions appropriate to your account, and ask an administrator about a managed destination rather than changing the entire folder’s access rules.
After copying finishes, open the installed destination directly and inspect the intended version. Repair Dock entries only after that test succeeds. A shortcut should reflect the working destination rather than remain tied to installation material.
An Example of a Misleading Success
You click the new app in a mounted image and it runs. Later, the Applications icon launches an older bundle that fails. Those observations do not show that the new release fails from Applications; they show that two objects need to be distinguished. The copy and replacement record determines the next step.
Keep account data separate from this program-file repair. Broadly deleting the profile could remove preferences while leaving the wrong Applications target unchanged.
Mac Copy Questions
Should I Run Permanently from the Download Image?
Use the publisher’s intended installed location. A temporary image can complicate updates, shortcuts and normal ejection, even when its app can launch.
Does Replacing the Bundle Create Another Wallet?
Replacing host software does not require initializing the signer or generating new recovery words. Select the appropriate existing-device workflow after the client works.
What Should I Include in a Launch Report?
Provide both paths, object kinds, versions and the exact failing response. Exclude wallet backup information; it cannot explain a Mac application copy or launch difference.
