  • Ledger Live libfuse.so.2 Missing on Ubuntu: Repair the Dependency

Match the Named Library to the Installed Ubuntu Release

When Ledger Live reports that libfuse.so.2 is missing on Ubuntu, investigate the AppImage runtime’s FUSE2 dependency. The app’s current name is Ledger Wallet. Adding blockchain accounts, unlocking the hardware, or clearing portfolio history cannot install a required host library.

Read the full error before choosing a package. A missing library, a wrong-architecture library, and a bundle that was never downloaded completely are different starting points. Keep the artifact and Ubuntu release identifiable throughout the repair.

Understand Why a Newer FUSE Version May Not Satisfy It

An executable can request a specific library interface. FUSE3 being present does not prove that the older FUSE2 compatibility interface is installed. This does not mean the desktop’s existing filesystem components should be replaced with an older stack.

The official AppImage troubleshooting guide documents coexistence and notes the Ubuntu 24.04 package rename to libfuse2t64. Earlier Ubuntu instructions may name libfuse2. Select the package for your actual release and architecture, not the first command returned by a search.

Review the Repository Transaction Before Approving It

Use the configured supported Ubuntu package sources and the normal authorized installation process. Check what the package manager proposes to add or remove. Unexpected removal of core desktop packages is a reason to stop and review the instruction.

If the expected package cannot be found, retain the package-manager message. A disabled source, a package rename, and a host outside the tutorial’s intended release need different handling. Mixing repositories from multiple releases can introduce a larger dependency problem.

Do not download a loose shared library from a repair site, copy it into system directories, or create a symlink pretending another major interface is libfuse.so.2. That hides the dependency question behind an unverified binary or misleading filename.

Confirm the Wallet Artifact Is Suitable Too

Identify the selected Linux package through Ledger’s distribution page. Confirm that its architecture and current requirements match the computer. Ubuntu running on a processor does not establish that the same Ledger build runs there.

Keep one complete verified file as the test target. If normal file execution permission is needed, apply it to that file only. Avoid recursive changes to home directories or privileged wallet execution as substitutes for a valid package and dependency.

Judge the New Result Precisely

Launch the same artifact as the normal desktop user after the appropriate library repair. If the previous missing-library error disappears, record that progress even if another error follows. A new namespace denial belongs to a different branch.

Ubuntu’s security notes describe unprivileged user-namespace restrictions relevant to some sandboxed application launches. Do not keep replacing FUSE or suppress the sandbox because the process reached that later boundary.

Only after the interface opens normally should you test desktop USB access and account discovery. Udev access rules, internet availability, and hardware prompts remain separate prerequisites. Use a harmless settings or device-management action instead of a payment as proof of startup.

What if the Library Is Already Installed?

Compare the package architecture, exact requested library, and actual executable. Installed package presence does not establish that an incompatible or incomplete AppImage can load it correctly. Preserve the loader’s precise message for support.

Is the Error About Device Storage?

No. A host runtime library and the Ledger’s app capacity are different resources. Removing coin apps will not create libfuse.so.2 on Ubuntu.

Can System Maintenance Wait Until an Update Finishes?

Yes. Preserve any progressing Ledger OS installation and its stable host before ordinary restarts or dependency experiments. Host setup does not require exposing recovery words or resetting the signer.
