Observe What Changes After the Correct PIN
When Ledger Live remains on Connect and unlock device, unlock the intended Ledger on its own controls and watch both displays. The companion app is now Ledger Wallet. If nothing changes on the host, distinguish a failed data link from a later requested device state before reinstalling.
Do not type the hardware PIN into a desktop or mobile field. Stop guessing if you do not know it. A host waiting message does not change the device’s access protections or make recovery the first troubleshooting step.
Verify Which Device the Host Is Waiting For
If several Ledgers are nearby or attached, identify the intended unit and model. A working session with another device can hide the original failure. Use only the relevant connection attempt so prompts and inventory refer to the hardware in your hand.
For the dedicated desktop app, test a supported USB data path. A cable may supply power without carrying usable data, and a hub or accessory prompt can affect access. Follow Ledger’s USB help rather than installing an unknown driver package.
For mobile, confirm the model’s supported transport independently. The phone connection guide distinguishes Bluetooth models from Android wired OTG. Nano S Plus lacks Bluetooth, and an iPhone cable does not create its Android wired workflow.
Compare Unlocking With the Requested App State
After PIN entry, the device may be on its dashboard, inside a coin app, or displaying another request. Read the host’s current instructions. My Ledger management and a transaction-signing flow need not request the same state.
For instance, unlocking while an unrelated blockchain app remains open can leave a management operation waiting for a different screen. Conversely, returning to the dashboard when the host requests a particular coin app can delay signing. Follow the active task rather than a fixed rule to always open Bitcoin.
Consult the physical navigation reference for Nano models and matching touchscreen documentation for others. Do not use speculative button timing or enter a maintenance mode to escape an ordinary waiting screen.
Remove Session Competition at an Idle Point
Close an unnecessary wallet application or browser page that might already use the device, then repeat the intended connection once. Avoid opening multiple management windows, because their overlapping requests make ownership harder to identify.
Keep a progressing Ledger OS update attached to its current supported host. Do not move cables, change hosts, or close that session to test ordinary connection theories. If the update explicitly failed, follow the matching model’s continuation first.
Preserve Evidence When the Message Changes
If granting host access removes Connect and unlock but a network error appears next, local recognition advanced. Record the new error. A device information panel followed by a blank online catalog differs from complete failure to detect any device.
Try the supported repair for the earliest remaining failure. Repeatedly resetting account data can discard useful organization while leaving an adapter, host permission, or competing session unchanged. A portfolio that still displays old balances is not proof of live device communication.
Can the Phone’s Paired Label Prove the Session Works?
No. A remembered system Bluetooth association and an active application session are distinct. Use the app’s intended device-dependent operation as evidence.
Will Generating New Wallet Secrets Clear the Loop?
Do not reinitialize the hardware for a host connection symptom. Preserve the existing configuration and diagnose state, transport, and access first.
Which Result Helps Official Support?
Report what happened immediately after unlock, exact screens, selected model, host versions, supported cable comparison, and permissions. Exclude PINs and backup words.
