  • Ledger Live Blocked by Controlled Folder Access: Resolve the Event

Start With the Notification, Not a Security Exception

When Controlled Folder Access blocks Ledger Live on Windows, find the recorded program and destination before granting access. The app is now called Ledger Wallet. This protection regulates changes to protected storage; a wallet export can fail even though application launch and USB communication work normally.

Keep the notification available and note what you were doing at that time. Do not assume any message mentioning protection is the same event. A malware detection, a SmartScreen warning, and a protected-folder write block require different investigations.

Three Details Determine the Next Step

  1. Which executable attempted the change?
  2. Which protected location was involved?
  3. Did that operation correspond to an action you initiated?

Microsoft’s CFA overview describes the associated Windows Security history and events. Compare the entry with the application actually running. If the browser was saving a download, that browser is a different requester from the installed companion app.

For instance, a history export directed into a redirected Documents folder may encounter protection there. A successful save somewhere else does not establish that the protected destination should be open to every application. It shows that the destination policy is relevant to this particular write.

Authenticate the Program Before Discussing Permission

Check the running file’s location and the intended release obtained through Ledger’s publisher download page. Use the applicable signature-verification information for that artifact. A name ending in Ledger.exe is not sufficient evidence of origin.

If the event names an unexpected script, old download, or program you did not launch, investigate that object. Do not allow it just because the interrupted task was wallet-related. The hardware’s genuine-check result also does not authenticate an unrelated Windows executable.

Choose a Destination or an Authorized Allowance

Where the feature allows a save location, select an appropriate permitted user destination and repeat only the export. Keep account records private afterward. Do not move hidden application profiles or change system-folder ownership to imitate a successful save.

If the verified program genuinely needs the protected location, an authorized administrator can assess a specific allowance using Microsoft’s configuration guidance. Keep the request tied to the actual executable. Do not disable ransomware protection or permit a whole collection of downloaded tools.

On a managed computer, policy belongs with its administrator. Explain the necessary operation and path instead of attempting to override the organization’s settings locally. A policy decision and a damaged installation are different issues.

Retest After the Approved Change Takes Effect

Microsoft notes that an allowed application or service must start after the allowance applies. If a restart of that program is needed, first finish its ordinary work and ensure it is not hosting an advancing Ledger OS installation. Preserve active device maintenance and resume the file-access test later.

Repeat the same write, then check whether the original block recurs. After an app update, the executable path may differ from an older allowance. Record the new event rather than assuming Windows ignored the earlier approval.

Why Can Another Program Save in That Folder?

Access can be assessed by application, so another program’s success does not authorize this executable. Compare the specific requester and relevant policy rather than broadening all folder access.

Is an Allowance a Repair for a Corrupt Download?

No. Verify software integrity separately. A permission decision cannot reconstruct an incomplete installer or establish that a suspect file is authentic.

Should the Hardware Backup Be Included in the Ticket?

No. Provide the event, operation, versions, and necessary path details with personal information reduced. Recovery words and the device PIN have no role in a Windows storage-access decision.
