  • Ledger Live App Removal Error: Check Dependencies and Inventory

Define the Removal You Intended

If Ledger Live cannot uninstall a device app, identify the package and its role before repeating removal. The current companion app is Ledger Wallet. Removing signer software differs from deleting a portfolio account, uninstalling the host client, or resetting the hardware wallet.

Write down the selected app, the exact refusal, and whether My Ledger still identifies the device. This separates an intentional dependency restriction from losing the management connection midway through a request.

Inspect Base and Dependent Apps

Before removing a base app, review its current dependencies. The official touchscreen app-management guide states that dependent Bitcoin or Ethereum apps must be removed first in that workflow. Use the corresponding instructions for the actual hardware.

A dependency refusal is not automatically device corruption. For example, a parent-app removal blocked while a dependent package remains requires a different response from a USB disconnection error. Preserve both app names and the displayed explanation.

Choose only apps whose consequences and supported reinstallation path you understand. Ordinary coin-app removal leaves wallet secrets intact, but app-specific preferences and non-coin credentials should not be assumed to behave identically. Review the integration before rotating software you still depend on.

Determine Whether the Earlier Removal Finished

After the request has ended and the device is normally accessible, inspect its physical app list and refresh My Ledger’s inventory. If the app is already absent, another uninstall is unnecessary. A late host error may concern a follow-up request rather than the removal itself.

Ledger’s apps-and-accounts explanation distinguishes software installed on the signer from public portfolio entries. Deleting a host account cannot remove the installed package or free its device capacity.

If host and hardware disagree, retain that discrepancy and exact timing. Do not use a broad erase operation to make the two lists agree. A stale interface should be investigated through its supported refresh and management path.

Rebuild Only the Failed Management Session

If the hardware is ordinarily locked, unlock it there and follow the current dashboard or secure-connection request. Never type the PIN into the host. Approve only management work you initiated, not a payment presented as uninstall authorization.

With idle hardware, check supported transport and close competing clients. The dedicated desktop client uses USB data. A powered screen alone cannot establish that an adapter or cable provides usable communication.

The secure management reference describes online dependencies for uninstall actions. If recognition persists but a certificate or service error appears, investigate that network request. Repeated local resets do not repair its trust chain.

Keep Broad Erasure Out of a Single-App Repair

A hardware factory reset is not an individual uninstall command. On models offering Uninstall all apps, that supported control also has broader scope than removing one selected package. Follow applicable model guidance rather than choosing an option simply because its wording contains uninstall.

Leave advancing Ledger OS work connected to its supported session. Update, Bootloader, or another failed maintenance state needs its exact recovery branch before ordinary app rotation. After a normal removal succeeds, confirm the app is absent and reassess the intended capacity.

Do I Need an On-Chain Transfer First?

Ordinary supported coin-app rotation does not itself move assets. Check special or discontinued integrations separately rather than paying fees merely to change installed software.

What if Reinstallation Is No Longer Offered?

Record the app, model, and installed version before further changes. Ask official support about the supported current path instead of loading firmware or binaries from another device.

What Should the Failure Report Show?

Include dependency names, before-and-after inventory, exact error, software versions, hardware screen, and connection evidence. Exclude backup words, PINs, and unnecessary account history.
