  • Ledger Live Accounts Gone After Reinstall: Reconstruct One First

Start With One Account You Can Recognize

If Ledger Live accounts are missing after reinstalling, begin by reconstructing one known supported account instead of rebuilding the entire portfolio at once. The app now uses the Ledger Wallet name. Local entries can disappear with application data while blockchain history and the Ledger’s configured keys remain separate.

Choose a chain and a known transaction or other suitable public reference. Keep that information private. A previous nickname is helpful for organization, but a name such as Savings cannot establish which blockchain account you need.

Classify the Missing Information

What is missing Initial direction
The account row Supported account addition or eligible sharing.
History within an existing row Identity, network and data-refresh checks.
A familiar local name Organization or synchronization records.
Access from the current hardware The device’s matching wallet configuration.

Ledger’s missing-account guidance concerns those distinctions. Do not treat every empty-looking screen as proof that recovery words must be entered somewhere.

Use the Initialized Hardware That Controlled the Account

Choose the existing-device flow and connect the appropriate Ledger using the supported transport for that host. Unlock it through its physical controls and complete the intended authenticity and connection steps.

If the account used an additional passphrase, the corresponding hardware configuration matters. Ledger’s passphrase explanation describes why that produces a different set of accounts. It is not the same credential as a local app password.

If the device was previously erased and initialized with unrelated secrets, a new app installation cannot derive the original account from them. Preserve present usable access and resolve that separate hardware-recovery issue through official guidance, without typing the backup into software.

Prove the Account Before Recreating Labels

Install the required device blockchain app where needed, then use the companion’s supported account-addition process for the actual network. Installing a coin app is not itself the same as adding a portfolio row.

Compare the discovered account type and known public history. For Bitcoin, account format can matter, and a fresh receive address need not be the only address the account has used. For tokens, the parent chain matters even when symbols look identical.

Once the known history matches, repeat for other intended accounts. Reapply names afterward. If discovery finds the expected account but it cannot refresh, keep that result and investigate the data request instead of restarting the whole reconstruction.

Review Any Available Sharing Records

Where supported, a documented account-sync or import workflow can assist. The Ledger Sync overview describes account-information synchronization, not importing signing secrets into the phone or computer.

Do not promise that every label, provider receipt or preference will return. Retained records depend on the feature and previous setup. Keep exported public account information private because it can reveal financial activity.

Keep any previously exported provider receipts separate from blockchain reconstruction. A restored account history may show transfers while omitting details held by a service. Do not promise that finding the account also recreates every off-chain record lost with local data.

Reinstalled-Account Questions

Should I send funds to activate an empty list?

No transfer is needed merely to rebuild visibility. Identify and add the intended supported account. A payment request from a supposed recovery service does not establish the missing local entry.

Does reinstalling change the hardware PIN?

Host software replacement and the Ledger’s controls are separate. Do not reset configured hardware because an app starts onboarding again.

Can account reconstruction run during Ledger OS installation?

Let progressing maintenance finish on its supported session first. Avoid host changes or data removal during it, and use model-specific continuation for an explicit device-update failure.
