  • Ledger Live Account Import QR Failure: Diagnose the Scan Result

Record the Scanner’s Actual Response

When a Ledger Live account-import QR code fails, classify the result before changing anything: no camera preview, no code detection, or rejection after detection. The application now carries the Ledger Wallet name. These outcomes point to different conditions and should not all be treated as a dirty lens.

Keep the source screen available. Note whether it is a current Ledger Sync invitation, an older account-export sequence, or something unrelated such as a receive address. Only the matching importer can interpret the intended account-sharing data.

If the Preview Is Black or Unavailable

Check camera permission for the exact application installed on the phone. Apple’s privacy control documentation describes app-specific access; Android has its own settings rather than identical menu labels. Return to the same supported scanner after correcting a denied grant.

A missing preview concerns the phone’s camera path, not the Ledger’s recovery phrase. Close another camera-using activity if necessary and observe whether the supported scanner can now show a live image. Do not grant contacts, microphone, or unrelated capabilities as a general QR repair.

If the phone camera also fails in ordinary permitted use, investigate the handset separately. Reinstalling coin apps on the hardware cannot restore a camera sensor or its system authorization.

If the Image Appears but Nothing Is Recognized

Expose the whole code, including its clear border, without reflections. Adjust distance until the squares are sharply separated. A very large image held too close can be harder to focus on than a modest one viewed steadily.

For example, a laptop privacy filter or a bright window reflected across one corner can make only part of the pattern readable. Move the viewing angle or remove the reflection, keeping the original producing application in control. Avoid sending the image to an online decoder for experimentation.

Follow any live or animated export instructions shown by the actual release. A still screenshot is not a universal substitute. Current Sync invitations and historical animated account exports should not be assumed to use the same encoding or timing.

If Recognition Produces an Error

The camera has already done useful work. Preserve the new message and inspect the app versions, invitation state, and network requirements. A session that was canceled at the source is not revived by cleaning the phone lens.

Use Ledger’s supported Sync setup to create a fresh linking attempt if the application says the previous one is invalid. Start from your own trusted installation, not a code supplied by an account-recovery helper.

Both applications should come through the official distribution routes. Initial hardware activation, where required, is a separate prerequisite. A successful scan cannot compensate for unsupported software or an unfinished activation step.

Check More Than the Success Animation

After import or linking completes, inspect one intended account’s network and public identity. Then check whether the requested account selection arrived. If the account is present but its history will not refresh, retain that new chain-data error rather than repeating the camera setup.

For continuing Sync, account-name changes can offer a metadata check. A one-time legacy import does not automatically promise future updates. Preserve the working source until the destination result is understood.

Can a Payment QR Scanner Import the List?

No general compatibility should be assumed. A recipient-address screen expects different information from a synchronization invitation or account export. Use the feature’s own scanner.

Should I Attach the Active Code to a Public Ticket?

Describe the workflow and error instead. Linking codes and account exports can expose account information or authorize access to it. Redact sensitive screen details before sharing.

Is Hardware Erasure a Camera Fix?

No. Keep the existing hardware wallet intact. Scanner permissions, optical recognition, and application linking can be diagnosed without generating new secrets.
