  • Ledger Live Code 43 on Windows: Test Before Changing Drivers

Code 43 Is a Starting Result, Not a Component Diagnosis

If Ledger Live cannot connect and Windows reports USB Code 43, retain the complete device status. The code indicates that a driver reported a problem with the device. It does not identify one universal cause or establish that the signer needs a firmware reset. The current companion application is Ledger Wallet.

Confirm that the affected entry belongs to the attached Ledger. Another peripheral’s error can coexist with a wallet access problem, so the yellow symbol alone is not enough to connect the two observations.

Record a Repeatable Failure

Note the status before and after an ordinary connection attempt, the cable route and whether the client is open. Microsoft’s error-code guidance provides the operating-system context.

A Code 43 result present at attachment should be investigated differently from an account-specific error after successful management access. If the error occurs only after the PC resumes, preserve that timing rather than describing all initial connections as failed.

Pause Before Any Connection Experiment

Read the Ledger screen. A device OS update that is still advancing should retain its prescribed host and transport conditions. Do not unplug, restart or replace drivers as a generic experiment during that operation. Use exact model-specific instructions for a persistent firmware failure.

For an idle device, proceed with comparisons that can change the evidence without changing wallet keys. Avoid rapid repeated reconnects, because they make the timing and device entries harder to follow.

Establish the Simplest Suitable Data Path

If a dock is present, compare a direct port with an appropriate data cable. If one cable has only demonstrated charging, use a cable whose data function is known. Then compare another suitable host port, keeping the rest of the setup constant where practical.

Microsoft’s USB-C support guidance covers relevant host and dock conditions. A change from unknown hardware to normal identification is useful evidence. A lit screen by itself is not the same improvement.

If the exact setup works on another supported computer, include that result. It narrows the investigation toward the first environment without proving which driver, port or power condition is responsible. Repeated failure across suitable hosts and cables is also useful information for the vendors.

Review a Targeted Driver Action Only When Indicated

Follow current Windows, host-manufacturer and Ledger instructions for the actual status and context. Ledger’s Windows update-detection procedure addresses a defined scenario, rather than every possible Code 43 occurrence.

Do not replace all USB interface bindings using an unknown tool. Changing an unrelated controller can introduce additional failures and make the original observation less useful. Obtain required host software through the appropriate official maintenance route.

Recognize Progress to a Different Layer

If Windows begins identifying the Ledger normally but the app asks for unlocking, answer that new hardware-state request. If a management action then fails with a network error, investigate that message. Neither result should automatically trigger another round of Code 43 driver changes.

For instance, a direct path that works while the docked path fails points to the route for further investigation. It is not a guarantee that one particular hub component is defective or that a wallet reinstall is required.

Code 43 Questions

Does the Code Mean the Signer Is Beyond Repair?

That conclusion is not established by the general Windows status. Use the observed comparisons and the actual hardware state with official support.

Should I Turn Off USB Power Saving Immediately?

First establish whether idle or resume behavior is involved. Microsoft recommends keeping selective suspend in normal operation; broad disabling is not the default response to every attachment failure.

What Would Recovery Words Change Here?

They do not repair Windows enumeration or its driver status. Keep the backup offline and reject software or support requests that claim it is needed to clear Code 43.
