Locate the Storage Target Named by the Error
If a Ledger Live update needs more disk space, establish where it was trying to write. A package may download to one drive while installation uses another volume for replacement or temporary work. The client is now called Ledger Wallet; its host storage is distinct from app capacity on a Ledger signer.
Keep the full error and the update stage. No space left on device can refer to a filesystem named by a host error, while a My Ledger capacity notice can concern the physical signer’s coin apps. Do not move between those interpretations without identifying the operation.
Account for Downloading and Replacement Separately
- The downloaded package occupies its saved location.
- Installation may unpack or stage additional files.
- The destination application and existing local data use their own storage.
- Trash, temporary material and other files can still consume available capacity.
The package’s advertised size is therefore not a universal statement of free working space. Use current requirements for the actual platform and release instead of an arbitrary number repeated in an old installation guide.
Inspect the Host’s Storage View
Use the operating system’s normal storage tools to inspect the affected volume. Apple’s Mac storage guide explains how to review local usage and appropriate cleanup options. On another platform, use its equivalent built-in view for the destination named by the error.
If the expected space appears available, check whether the installer instead reports a quota, inaccessible folder or write refusal. A permission error will not necessarily disappear after deleting additional files. Also confirm that a removable destination is connected and usable under your normal account.
Free Space Using Files You Recognize
Review expendable duplicate packages or large personal files that you can safely archive. Confirm backups before removing originals. Inspect Trash or Recycle Bin before emptying it, since moving a file there may not yet release its occupied space.
Avoid unknown wallet-cleaning utilities or instructions to delete every application-support folder. Account organization and local preferences can be useful even when the program itself needs replacement. Removing them without understanding their role can create additional setup work while leaving the full target volume unchanged.
Restart the Installation at the Correct Stage
After resolving the named storage condition, obtain a complete official package if the previous transfer was interrupted. Use the Ledger distribution page for the supported route. Do not treat a partial file as usable because it has the expected extension.
Close competing ordinary installer attempts and read the next result. If installation now proceeds until an app-in-use message, the storage diagnosis has changed. Address that new stage rather than continuing to remove files indefinitely.
If a Ledger OS update is progressing on the hardware, retain its required connection and host process. A casual reboot or deletion of updater working files is inappropriate during that activity; persistent device-update errors need their own model-specific procedure.
Distinguish the Smaller Device Storage Problem
When installing a coin app, My Ledger may instead report insufficient capacity on the signer. That calls for the documented hardware app-management workflow, not a computer disk cleanup. Removing or reinstalling supported coin apps is also distinct from resetting wallet keys.
For example, moving a desktop installer to an external drive may help its save location while the system volume remains too full for staging. The location you changed and the location still reporting failure should be recorded separately.
Storage Questions
Does a Larger Cloud Plan Create Installer Space?
A cloud quota and free bytes on a local working volume are different resources. Confirm that your chosen storage workflow actually releases local capacity where the updater needs it.
Should I Remove Account Data to Make Room First?
Start with recognized expendable files and the actual storage report. A broad application-data reset is a separate decision and should not be assumed to be the required cleanup step.
Does the Hardware Need a New Recovery Phrase?
A host disk-space error does not call for changing the signer’s wallet configuration. Keep the established backup offline and out of cleanup tools or installation forms.
