Find the Source of the Old Labels
After reinstalling Ledger Live, custom account names can return only if an appropriate preserved source contains them. The current product name is Ledger Wallet. The hardware can identify supported accounts under its configured wallet, but an arbitrary nickname is not a blockchain property that the device can derive from nothing.
Start with a small inventory: which names are missing, which accounts they described, and whether another installation still has them. This keeps a label problem separate from an account-discovery problem or genuinely different wallet configuration.
Check a Previous Sync Enrollment
Ledger documents synchronized account names in its Sync feature overview. If enrollment existed before removal, follow the supported reactivation or linking procedure rather than creating a new empty reference and deleting the old relationship.
The reactivation FAQ explains using the appropriate configured hardware after uninstall. Keep the intended wallet configuration consistent. A restoration request belongs on trusted hardware only when actual deliberate hardware recovery is needed, not in the reinstalled desktop’s text fields.
Check the result rather than promising that every local setting will return. Account-name sharing does not mean the app password, layout, provider records, and unrelated preferences are all one transferable backup.
Use Surviving Records Without Guessing Identity
A second computer or a private account register may preserve the labels. Match its public account information and network before applying a name in the new installation. Two entries named Bitcoin are not necessarily the same account, and row order can change during rediscovery.
Consider three accounts previously called Daily, Taxes, and Reserve. If all now show default labels, compare their underlying identities with the private register. Do not assign Taxes merely to whichever row currently appears second. That would create convincing wording without verifying the account it describes.
Keep inventories protected. Public account information can reveal balances, historical activity, or relationships between addresses. A descriptive label can add personal context, so a support screenshot should include only what is necessary.
If No Label Was Preserved
Create clear replacement names after identifying the actual accounts. There may be no source for recovering the original spelling. Enabling Sync today cannot retroactively recover metadata that was deleted before it was ever shared.
Use Ledger’s supported account-addition guidance if the account rows themselves are absent. Connect the initialized hardware and choose the appropriate network. Do not initialize new wallet secrets just to make a familiar list appear.
For networks with changing receiving addresses, account identity needs appropriate interpretation. A fresh hardware-verified receive address need not equal the last historical address. Avoid labeling the account as wrong solely because it generates a new valid receiving destination.
Verify the Reconstructed Organization
Review one expected historical transaction and the correct chain for each important account. Then apply names that distinguish purpose or account number without exposing unnecessary personal data. Renaming is an interface action, not an asset transfer.
If accounts match but balances fail to refresh, handle that chain-data issue independently. Deleting a carefully reconstructed label or redoing hardware recovery cannot repair an unavailable explorer. Preserve a working reference before broader changes.
Does the Phrase Encode My Account Nicknames?
No. Wallet secrets and local descriptive labels serve different roles. Do not type backup words into software to search for names; use preserved metadata or reconstruct useful wording.
Can Renaming Redirect Incoming Funds?
The display label does not replace the underlying account. Still verify the actual receiving destination on the Ledger whenever the supported workflow requests it.
Should I Copy Another Installation’s Entire Data Folder?
Do not improvise file replacement as a naming repair. Use supported sharing or account reconstruction so compatibility and private local data remain understandable.
