An Empty Interface Is a Starting State to Investigate
A new computer showing an empty Ledger Live portfolio does not by itself establish an empty blockchain wallet. The application is now Ledger Wallet. The new installation may not yet have the account information that another computer displays.
Start with the installed app and operating-system user. Another user profile, an obsolete shortcut or a different application copy can present a separate local view. Confirm the actual launch location before treating the screen as a report about your hardware keys.
Use the Old Computer as a Reference, Not a Secret Source
If it remains available, privately record one intended chain, account type and recognizable transaction. Do not copy a phrase, passphrase or hardware PIN into a migration file. An exported address collection can reveal activity too, so retain only what you need.
For example, a known Bitcoin transaction is a better matching reference than requiring today’s receive address to equal an old screenshot. Ledger’s address and derivation explanation gives context for accounts and their addresses.
Establish the New Computer’s Supported Hardware Route
Install from Ledger’s official distribution and assess that computer’s current requirements. The package appropriate to the first host is not automatically appropriate to another operating system or processor.
Use the dedicated desktop app’s USB data workflow with the initialized Ledger. Unlock it on the device and choose existing-device onboarding. Complete the genuine check through the supported process instead of bypassing it to reach a portfolio faster.
Do not move the device from a progressing Ledger OS installation on the first computer. That maintenance session must finish or follow its exact failed-state procedure before an ordinary host handover.
Add a Specific Existing Account
Use the supported account-addition route for the correct blockchain and any required device app. Select the intended discovered account rather than assuming a newly offered empty account must be the one from your old portfolio.
Compare the public history reference after synchronization. If the account matches, the new host now has a useful local view. If the row exists but data retrieval fails, diagnose that request separately. If a different empty history is found, review network, account format and the hardware configuration.
Match Keys Without Moving Them Into the Computer
An additional passphrase context or a differently initialized Ledger can lead to different accounts. A familiar device shell or copied nickname is not sufficient to establish the same keys. Keep the actual configured signer available while investigating.
Ledger’s multiple-installation guidance provides the supported account-sharing context. Where eligible, that workflow can populate another interface. It is separate from live USB access and does not require a host-side backup import.
After the correct account is established, organize labels and display preferences. Confirm receiving information on the physical Ledger before using it. A visible familiar total alone does not verify every later clipboard value or intended transaction.
New-Computer Portfolio Questions
Must I transfer crypto from the old computer?
The computers are interfaces to blockchain accounts. Adding the same account view does not require a financial transfer or create another copy of the assets.
Should I initialize the Ledger again?
Keep an existing configured device unchanged. New keys would describe another wallet rather than restore the previous local portfolio.
What if the old computer is gone?
Use the matching initialized Ledger and supported discovery for the intended chains. Missing old labels or receipts may need separate reconstruction. Recovery words must not be entered into the new desktop app to recreate those local records.
