  • Ledger Live After Mac Sleep: Resume Without Repeating a Send

Start with the Last Action, Not the Unplugged Cable

If Ledger Live loses the device after Mac sleep, identify what you were doing before the screen went away. A connection that was idle, a signed transaction and an active Ledger OS installation call for different handling. The host software is now called Ledger Wallet.

If you approved a send before the disconnect, look for its transaction hash or provider reference before creating another. Loss of the visible client session does not establish that the first operation was never broadcast. Reconnection should not accidentally become a duplicate payment attempt.

Keep an Active Device Update Intact

Read the Ledger screen before applying ordinary recovery steps. If its OS update is continuing, preserve the connection and follow that operation’s instructions. Do not reboot the Mac, terminate the client or repeatedly replug the device just because the host has resumed.

If the device reaches a persistent failure, use the guide for the exact model and displayed state. A bootloader problem and a routine USB session after sleep are different conditions, so a generic wake-up checklist is not a replacement for documented firmware recovery.

Restore Three Readiness Conditions While Idle

The Mac Is Awake and Unlocked

Confirm normal host access first. On relevant Apple-silicon laptops, review any requested accessory approval. Apple’s accessory access guidance explains why a powered peripheral can still lack data access under some locked-host conditions.

The Ledger Is Ready for the Task

Unlock the hardware through its own controls if required. Read whether the client expects the dashboard, a management confirmation or a coin app. A device that stayed connected can still have locked independently during inactivity.

The Client Has a Usable Session

Try the original ordinary connection action once. If the host remains stuck on an old disconnect message, a normal quit and relaunch of the intended installed copy can be considered when no critical device operation depends on the process.

Separate the Dock from the Direct Path

When idle testing is appropriate, compare a suitable direct USB connection with the docked route. Keep the Ledger, data cable and intended action consistent. If only the docked route fails after wake, record that pattern for the hub or computer vendor.

A device that lights up after resume may have power without a functioning data session. Likewise, a host indication that an accessory connected is not the same as a completed hardware action in the wallet app. Record the stage that actually works.

Prepare Longer Sessions Deliberately

Apple documents available sleep and wake controls for different Macs. For a planned maintenance session, use the conditions required by the update instructions and the host’s appropriate settings. Display sleep, screen lock and system sleep should not be treated as interchangeable events.

Keep ordinary Mac login protection in place while investigating the session. If a supported maintenance task calls for a temporary operating adjustment, identify its purpose and restore your usual preferences when the task finishes.

Record a Reproducible Resume Pattern

Note whether the failure follows sleep every time, appears only with a dock or also occurs while the Mac stays awake. Include the Mac and signer models, OS and app versions, relevant cable route and both screens’ messages.

For example, a signer that requests its PIN after inactivity while USB stays present suggests a different next action from an interface that disappears entirely after dock resume. Those observations should not be collapsed into the same firmware diagnosis.

Mac Resume Questions

Do I Need to Add All Accounts Again?

Restore the working host interface and device session first. Account-list reconstruction is a separate task and should not be triggered solely by a temporary disconnected indication.

Can Clearing Cache Restore a Missing USB Interface?

A cache concerns host data, while hardware enumeration and lock state concern other layers. Start with the condition that actually changed after sleep.

What Should I Check Before Another Send?

Check the earlier transaction’s network or provider status using its reference. Recreating the client session alone does not tell you whether a previously approved action already completed.
