  • Ledger Live Linux Device Busy: Find the Session Holding Access

Map the Sessions Before Changing Linux Permissions

A Ledger Live device-busy error on Linux can arise when a competing client is using the hardware interface. Ledger Wallet is the current app branding. Make a small list of programs that recently contacted the signer before changing rules, cables, or device software.

Include browser wallet pages, another desktop wallet, terminal tools, and an earlier companion-app instance. A window hidden on another workspace can still own a session. The goal is to identify an actual requester, not to kill every process with wallet in its name.

Preserve the Current Owner’s Work

Check whether the existing session is performing a Ledger OS installation. If progress is advancing, leave it alone and do not try to give the device to a second application. Finish the supported maintenance flow before testing ordinary contention.

An unresolved signature request also deserves attention before closure. If an action was already approved, record its transaction or service identifier and check its status independently. Closing a process cannot undo a signature or guarantee that broadcast never happened.

Use Sequential Access as the Comparison

Finish the known client’s ordinary task and close its device connection through normal controls. Then request one harmless hardware action from the intended application under your normal user. Keep other variables unchanged so that success can be linked to releasing access.

For example, a browser-based chain interface left open after use can be overlooked while opening My Ledger. If normal closure of that browser session allows management to work, keep subsequent workflows sequential. This supports a contention explanation without proving every later error has the same cause.

Do not unload generic HID drivers or terminate unrelated desktop processes to make a busy message disappear. The Linux HIDRAW reference explains the relevant raw interface; it does not make every HID peripheral an appropriate target for wallet troubleshooting.

Check What Busy Means in the Actual Message

Retain the full error and any interface path. No detection means Linux never reached the same boundary. Permission denied concerns access policy. A device recognized and waiting for confirmation can simply need the expected hardware response. Those outcomes should not be collapsed into one generic busy diagnosis.

If session isolation exposes a permission error, compare the relevant setup with LedgerHQ’s Linux access rules. Correct the targeted mechanism rather than starting the app as root. Extra privilege does not close another client’s connection.

Retest an Ordinary Device Session When Idle

If the identified clients are closed but the failure persists, preserve process and device observations for official support. Once no device update or unresolved operation is active, a documented ordinary reconnect or host-session restart may provide a clean comparison. Avoid repeating it without recording the result.

Use the intended official package from Ledger’s download choices. A new AppImage launch target and an old browser session are separate variables; changing both at once makes the outcome difficult to interpret.

After access returns, respond only to requests you intentionally initiate. Returning to another wallet page can require its own device-selection step again. A freed interface is not permission to accept every connection or signature request that appears.

Should I Uninstall Coin Apps to Release the Interface?

Device-app removal changes signer software. It does not identify which Linux client owns a host session and is not the routine fix for competing applications.

Can I Keep Both Portfolio Windows Open?

Public-data views and live hardware access are different. Several windows displaying accounts do not require simultaneous device ownership, but keep the intended signing or management client identifiable.

Does Resetting the Signer Clear a Linux Process?

No routine hardware factory reset belongs in this diagnosis. Preserve the existing wallet and keep recovery words out of Linux, browser dialogs, and any support tool offering to release the device.
