  • Ledger Live Android Location Request: Match the Bluetooth Workflow

Read the Request as an Android Capability Decision

If Ledger Live asks for location permission while connecting by Bluetooth on Android, check the actual supported OS and app workflow before changing privacy settings. The application is now Ledger Wallet. Legacy Bluetooth discovery can involve a location-related grant because nearby radio information can reveal location context.

This does not mean every current phone needs permanent background location, or that a wallet connection should be repaired by enabling every privacy category. Preserve the request’s exact wording and the task that produced it.

Why Older and Newer Instructions Differ

Google’s Bluetooth permission documentation distinguishes older scanning requirements from newer Nearby devices capabilities. It also describes exceptions and target-version conditions. Avoid reducing that history to a universal rule based only on the phone’s brand.

The practical question is what the genuine installed release requests on this Android configuration. A nearby-device dialog on a recent phone should not be treated as a missing location prompt simply because an older guide used that word.

Check the App Grant and System State Separately

Open the verified app’s permission information using Android’s supported access controls. Where the documented discovery flow requires location, choose the appropriate offered foreground scope. Where it requires system Location services as well, assess that separate condition.

The master setting and the app-specific grant are not the same switch. A map finding your position does not establish that the wallet has permission to perform its own scan. Conversely, an empty Bluetooth list alone does not prove that the phone’s GPS hardware failed.

Do not enable continuous location access, contacts, or microphone as a bundle. Each permission should correspond to a supported feature you intentionally chose. If a managed policy prevents the relevant grant, ask its administrator rather than installing a privacy-bypass utility.

Compare Discovery Before and After One Relevant Change

Use an idle supported Bluetooth Ledger with its radio available and hardware unlocked. Start the app-led connection while both screens are visible. Note whether the permission error stops and whether the intended device appears.

Suppose the app now discovers Nano X but the later pairing exchange times out. The diagnosis has moved beyond discovery. Inspect unanswered prompts or retained association state rather than expanding location access again. A code mismatch should be canceled, not accepted to test whether the permission worked.

If the same message persists, keep phone and app versions with the exact grant shown in settings. That evidence is better than deleting the account list, which has no control over Android’s permission policy.

Keep This Separate From Other Connection Routes

Nano S Plus uses a supported wired Android path and has no Bluetooth. Location changes cannot create that radio or correct USB data conductors. For the intended model, follow the current connection route reached through Ledger’s official download and support entry.

An iPhone guide is another platform’s permission model and should not be used to infer Android settings. Likewise, a location grant does not replace the hardware PIN, genuine check, or physical transaction review.

Preserve any progressing hardware OS update before radio toggles, phone restarts, or permission experiments. A session carrying active installation should remain stable while you collect non-secret details for later testing.

Does the Request Prove the App Collected My GPS Position?

The permission category alone does not establish actual data collection. Review the genuine feature and current privacy information, and distinguish authorization from evidence of specific use.

Is Allow All the Time the Fastest Repair?

Do not choose broad background access by default. Use the scope required by the actual supported foreground discovery flow and investigate a separate background requirement only when documented.

What Wallet Secret Authorizes Location Access?

None. Android permissions are not phrase-validation or ownership checks. Recovery words must remain outside phone forms, screenshots, and support conversations.
